August 2026 Construction Update

The start of the school year is fast approaching.  Teachers are back in the building busy preparing for another great year at Howard-Winneshiek Schools.  Cresco Building Services (CBS) along with the other contractors have been working diligently all summer to have the north wing or middle school wing completed by the start of school.  There will be temporary “guests” in the middle school wing.  The three high school science teachers along with one of our English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher and the Spanish teacher will be housed in this wing until their spaces are complete.

CBS will be putting all of their resources into finishing the new South wing or High School wing next and that area should be completed within a few weeks.  The masonry crew is already working on the new high school offices and the new Family & Consumer Science and Music areas.  Work will continue on the auditorium as well.

We anticipate these areas going “on line” or being completed and ready to be used throughout the year likely in the spring.  The work on the elementary will begin once school is out.  The completion of the project is still on schedule for August 2027.

As we move through the year, I ask that everyone has patience and provide grace as we navigate providing our students their education in the middle of major construction project.  As I tell everyone this is short-term pain for long-term gain!
